Effortless Cloud Management for Your Business

How to get Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus to work on EC2 Instances

Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP) is a fully managed service that makes it easy to collect and store metrics from your applications and infrastructure. This service is built on top of the popular Prometheus open-source monitoring system, and is designed to make it simple to monitor your applications and infrastructure in a cloud-native environment.

One of the key benefits of AMP is its ability to automatically scale to meet the demands of your environment. This means that as your application or infrastructure grows, AMP will automatically increase the number of Prometheus servers and storage resources to ensure that your metrics are always being collected and stored in a timely manner.

To get Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP) to work with on-demand EC2 instances, you will need to follow these general steps:

1. Create an AMP workspace in the Amazon Management Console.

2. Set up the Prometheus Agent on your on-demand EC2 instances. You can do this by installing the Prometheus Agent on your EC2 instances and configuring it to communicate with the AMP workspace.

3. Configure the Prometheus exporters on your instances to collect metrics and send them to the Prometheus Agent.

4. Verify that the metrics are being collected and stored in the AMP workspace by checking the AMP console.

5. Set up alerts and notifications to be triggered when specific conditions are met.

6. Use the AMP dashboards to visualise the metrics and troubleshoot any issues.

Note that this is a high level overview and there may be additional steps that you need to take depending on your specific use case. You can also check the Amazon documentation for more detailed instructions on how to set up and use Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus with on-demand EC2 instances.
